about

« Dear intrusive diary,

Last night, my dream was made of voodoo dolls and sorcery spells.

Cloistered into his cave, a giant monster with a stony voice was preaching incantations in front of a huge cauldron.
There was smoke all around, everything looked so blurred that I couldn’t see more than my own silhouette.
The beast was constantly crying and shrieking an odd three-syllable name…

Pa - Pa - Yu

Papayu… Yes that was it!
I had no idea what that could be.

Suddenly, the ogre felt somebody else’s presence and he turned around. I instantly hid myself behind the closest rock I could find, hoping he hadn't already spotted me.
The monster looked around for a while, smelt out one last sip of air and finally got back to his task.

Dear diary, I would understand you don’t believe me but from the bottom of my lonely soul I can swear that what follows is what happened afterward… »

lyrics

Music & Lyrics: Phœte
Voice: Papayel, Papayu
Alto & Tenor Saxophones: Adrian Hanack

Papayel:
In the past there's no doubt you weren't the last.
Neither bet nor drink you would have lost.
You were known for being a sweet talker.
Together we went through many small plots.

Papayu?
Where are you?
Papayu?

For God's Sake, why did you steal my trinkets?
I told you they were mine and not to share.
In the rage I grasped you like any prey.
And your head tumbled off into your grave.

Papayu?
I killed you!
Papayu!

Come Papayu.
Come... Papayu.

Now old friend I cannot go anywhere.
Without you there's no Rome nor Tumbunktu.
Listlessness has never reached such summits.
And up there, everything does looks so bland.

Sacrifice I must say I'd ever thought.
But down there, suffering is well enough.
From my soul I implore whoever Christ.
May this spell, bring you there and give you life...

Oh!
Oh look at that!

Papayu...
It's...
You?!

My fellow Papayu, Papayu...
It's you!

Papayu:
Papayel choleric and pig-headed.
I'm back here and won't make endless stories.
Poor idiot you've betrayed every promise.
For your pride disdain's what you'll only get.

Papayel?

Papayel:
Papayu?

(together)
Papayu:
Papayel?
Papayel:
Papayu?

Papayu:
And I'm leavi-ii-ing...

(Papayel gromling)

Papayel:
Papayu!
